Polymyositis & Dermatomyositis Support Group
Polymyositis (PM) is a type of chronic inflammation of the muscles (inflammatory myopathy) related to dermatomyositis and inclusion body myositis. The inflammation is predominantly of the endomysium in polymyositis, whereas dermatomyositis is characterized by primarily perimysial inflammation.
Adrenal Crisis is the thing we worry about. We are steroid dependant for up to a year after getting off of steroids. If we encounter a big stress like an infection it can cause us to need more cortisone than our adrenal gland can produce, and that can lead to crisis. Usually a stomach nausea is one big sign. Tapering too fast can do the same thing. I wear a med alert bracelet noting i am steroid dependent. The only treatment is a dose and a half of your normal dose, and then a slower taper.
Sorry i was not here to help.

Gatoraid is a terrific drink to feel better when tapering or to help with the adrenals. Gatoraid has a nice balance of sodium, sugar, and electrolytes to hydrate and help the kidneys. Watch the blood pressure.
I am so glad that you are feeling much better. I understand about the feeling depressed. I found that when my meds are correctly adjusted both the prednisone and sparring drug, then this does help my total sense of well-being. Adrenal problems can make the entire body feel lousy including the emotions.
Think positively and move forward. Good Luck!
I had reflux before I got Myositis. When I started MTX, it started to be a problem. I found Nexium (name brand) worked the best to control that and keep my tummy settled. I also take 5 mg of Folic Acid the next day after my injection.
The day after my injection, I sometimes wake with a headache. Sometimes I am a little nauseated (depends what I eat the day before). I also find I do better if I avoid meat until at least the evening. It often tastes terrible and smells rotten to me...even when I know it is fresh. Meat in a sauce seems better but not always. I usually have "urgent poop". Not necessarily diarrhea but I need to go and go NOW. It is not unusual for me to poop 2-3 times that day. Sorry TMI. I also have fatigue...like I couldn't go shopping that day or do activities that require strong attention but each week is different. Sometimes, I sleep almost the entire next day.
I've learned to save all my TV shows from the week on my DVR. I sleep in as long as my body wants (often 11 or noon) and then rest on the couch. I eat things that don't smell terrible and wait for the day to pass. It is a great day to do lists and more sedentary tasks. I find I can drive somewhere but not really walk much.
For me, once I got the 25mg, I was able to control my CPK fine. It helped me get off Prednisone.
Let me know if I can answer anything else.
Drugs.com is a good place to look up side effects. I hope this helps.
The metallic taste has changed my eating significantly. Many things I used to love, I don't like anymore. One thing I can't get enough of is sour stuff. I now love to eat lemons....just peeled. So weird.
Many people find help with the metallic taste by not eating with metal utensils. Try plastic instead. Also, many people suck on hard candy to help with the taste. I find I do best with simple foods from the source. I don't like the taste of processed foods. I really like fresh fruit and veggies. Not so much meat anymore although I still eat it. I find using things to combine with meat helps. So like spaghetti, or casseroles, lots of sauces to mask the meat taste. I also like fresh shrimp. Maybe consider keeping a food diary of what is good and what is not so good to you. That can maybe help. Don't be afraid to change your menus to match what works.
For me, I find the Metho day, I don't do well with much so I just eat to nourish myself. It gets better the further out I go from that date
I move my shot around. I was told to move it one day a week. So if you take it Monday, the next week do Sunday. The next week Saturday. The next week Friday. So it will take you 3 weeks to get to a Friday schedule. I take mine on Saturday night so I have my Saturday as usually my best day. Then Sunday is on the couch. Monday I am ready to go to work.
I would suspect your side effects will reduce after your body gets used to the dose. Things are much better for me now than it was when I first got to 25 mg.
