Polymyositis & Dermatomyositis Support Group
Polymyositis (PM) is a type of chronic inflammation of the muscles (inflammatory myopathy) related to dermatomyositis and inclusion body myositis. The inflammation is predominantly of the endomysium in polymyositis, whereas dermatomyositis is characterized by primarily perimysial inflammation.
Two years ago this month I was diagnosed with Anti JO-1 Polymyositis . Having researched the Internet I truly believed I would not be here two years down the line. My Rheumatologist referred me for lung Function tests to a Lung Specialist in his hospital who works closely with another rheumatologist with an interest in Myositis. I was treated with prednisone , tapered off last December and Azathioprine which I still take. My first lung function test told them I was down 30% on my lung function. Today I saw the lung specialist again, today's lung function test is nearly normal. He does not want to see me again unless my Rheumatologist requests it, he suggests my Rheumatologist sends me for a yearly lung function test to keep an eye on me as I am Anti Jo. Sorry about the long post but just want to say to all those hearing the Anti JO news, there is a life after treatment. It just has to be hit hard and fast. Best wishes to all. Autumm
The last 2 years I was doing only the lung function.
I took MTX, Azathioprine and Prendisone.
Now after 7 years i am only on MTX.
My last lung function was in 2.2014. it was 97%.
