Polymyositis (PM) is a type of chronic inflammation of the muscles (inflammatory myopathy) related to dermatomyositis and inclusion body myositis. The inflammation is predominantly of the endomysium in polymyositis, whereas dermatomyositis is characterized by primarily perimysial inflammation.
After reading Bruce's tube feed fruit loops I wanted to start a new discussion regarding tube feeds
I had a tube last summer due to swallowing issues and was eating an antiinflammatory diet which does not allow sugar. The second ingredient in most tube feed canned foods is sugar then corn syrup. I did not want to be eating that #%^$# so I looked up what people were doing. I bought a vitamix blender from Costco for $699 which was what I would have paid for a month of tube feed cans and made my own food. I blended what I made for my family added extra water or broth, strained it with a metal strainer and put it in the tube. i made extra and canned it for days when I didn't have energy to cook. worked like a charm
Ate my special diet through the tube! Had a few times where things started to plug the tube but straining everything stopped that. Ate scrambled eggs, chicken and just about everything.
I am willing to help with suggestions if people have questions

I am wondering why the people who make the tube feed foods include the corn syrup? Most food contains some sugar & calories, but the corn syrup ingredient is totally unnecessary.

Corn syrup adds calories cheaply ?? not sure if that is the reason. It also keeps the bowels regular. I remember that years ago they added corn syrup to cows milk to bottle feed babies when people couldnt afford formula. Something to look into
I know I sure read labels when I buy things in the store. Organic doesn't mean what I think it means so I read the labels to see what I am getting.

The medical community needs to be more open to these kinds of things. Just another thing to add to my never ending to do list! And I am starting to pass those things on to someone else because even though I know it is important I cant do it all!!!
