Polymyositis & Dermatomyositis Support Group
Polymyositis (PM) is a type of chronic inflammation of the muscles (inflammatory myopathy) related to dermatomyositis and inclusion body myositis. The inflammation is predominantly of the endomysium in polymyositis, whereas dermatomyositis is characterized by primarily perimysial inflammation.
If you visit The Myositis Association website at www.myositis.org You could discuss with others the process of how they went into remission. I know others on this site will share their remission experiences.
Good Luck!
I know you don't have to taper because of your body's response to the drug but the goal is to taper to a lower dose without causing a flare. I would love to get to a lower dose. I'll try again when I am feeling better overall.
I do agree the goal is to keep things going strong while trying to figure out the right dose of medication. Since everyone is different, it is often trial and error.
So, I get to experience tapering that has nothing to do with the goal of remission. HA! Oh the things I learn with this DM! Nothing like the twist of organ involvement.
autumnn, I hadn't heard before that you can just stop MTX, that's pretty cool. I'm happy to stay on it while my doc watches the bloodwork. I would much rather go slowly and carefully than try to get off as fast as I can--even though I can't get pregnant until I'm off of it, so I'd like it to be sooner than later!
trpt1, so sorry to hear about the liver involvement-just said a prayer for you! glad you aren't flaring. I will ask about folic acid. Thanks again!! :)
