Polymyositis (PM) is a type of chronic inflammation of the muscles (inflammatory myopathy) related to dermatomyositis and inclusion body myositis. The inflammation is predominantly of the endomysium in polymyositis, whereas dermatomyositis is characterized by primarily perimysial inflammation.
I agree with everyone in that your taper may have been too quick. I would suggest having the doctor evaluate your blood work and if necessary, return to an appropriate steroid with DMARD dosage. The whole idea of our medications is to feel well on a daily basis. When there is discomfort then that means find out why and adjust or add medications as needed.
I wanted to get totally off of prednisone too. I learned over time that I have active disease and can not taper below 5mg without flaring. Everyone is different. Be kind to your body. This is not a race.
