Polymyositis & Dermatomyositis Support Group
Polymyositis (PM) is a type of chronic inflammation of the muscles (inflammatory myopathy) related to dermatomyositis and inclusion body myositis. The inflammation is predominantly of the endomysium in polymyositis, whereas dermatomyositis is characterized by primarily perimysial inflammation.
Hang in there.
Good luck and best wishes with your taper off.
I taper down by half milligrams. Like everyone here, I will go much longer than two weeks at a particular dosage if I feel bad. I wait until I am stable before tapering lower. I have gone for several months at a particular dosage too.
I have a beast that likes to come out of the cage if I taper too low. I have an overlapping Scleroderma with my DM. I do think my organ involvement (liver, heart, kidney) tends to go off with elevated enzymes and signaling a muscle flare in the arms & legs when I try to go below 5mg of Prednisone. I have come to know my body. At the same time, my flares can also come without any warning too.
Tapering is NOT a race. The whole idea of our medications is to feel well on a daily basis. The goal is feeling well and functioning as well as possible.
Best wishes for a successful taper. Keep us posted.
