Polymyositis (PM) is a type of chronic inflammation of the muscles (inflammatory myopathy) related to dermatomyositis and inclusion body myositis. The inflammation is predominantly of the endomysium in polymyositis, whereas dermatomyositis is characterized by primarily perimysial inflammation.
Saw my dermatologist and he wants me to start Methotrexate tomorrow. My CK levels are increasing now that I am off the steroid which we had to stop because of my stomach problems which we are still in the process of trying to figure out. They are still in the "normal range" but are twice what they were 2 weeks ago. He said that combined with how I am feeling means we need to be doing something. We are starting at 15mg once a week. We are also doing the injectable form because of my stomach issues. I told him how nervous I am of the possible side effects. He seems to think it will be anticlimatic once I start it and I will do fine. He is also putting me on folic acid daily. He said if I were to have side effects he will put me on Leucovorin.
My nephew is being baptized on Sunday and I am so scared I will feel bad and not be ablet to make it. I just hope I do ok on the med & it helps. He also wants to start Planquenil eventually but not till we get some answers on my stomach issues. He said not because he necessarily thinks it will harm my stomach but just because he wants to limit what goes into my body as much as possible till we get some other things figured out.

that don't even feel the side effects, so think positive and please keep us posted.

Congratulations on your nephew's special day.
I had problems with the pills. I have had pretty significant GERD (reflux) for many years and the pills drove me nuts. The injections are just fine. Stomach wise, the only issue I have is that it changed the taste of foods for me so often, things smell and taste rotten.
I suspect you will be just fine but I doubt it would be a huge issue to not start until Saturday night. Then you will always have Sunday to rest and get feeling perfect.
For me, it took a good 6 weeks before the Methotrexate helped with my CK levels. Don't be disappointed if you don't see immediate results.
