Polymyositis (PM) is a type of chronic inflammation of the muscles (inflammatory myopathy) related to dermatomyositis and inclusion body myositis. The inflammation is predominantly of the endomysium in polymyositis, whereas dermatomyositis is characterized by primarily perimysial inflammation.

with dm can we use red light therapy? i called my doc and im waiting for him to get back to me but im just curious. it says that there are no harmful UV rays in the treatment?
its like a tanning bed that they have at my gym and it says it gives you the benefit of the sun without the harmful rays. anyone have an experience with this?

Hi Angela, I have not tried any red light therapy but I would be skeptical. Do you have more information?

I don't know much about red light therapy. I do know with Methotrexate, I was told to avoid the sun and tanning beds. My understanding is if this is to "color or tan" your skin, it is not good for your overall well being.

thanks for the replies. the way it was advertised to me was it was to get your vitamins from the sun without the UV rays.
My doc did call me back and he said "not at this time".
I'm not sure how the sun/light actually does cause flares so i figured it was worth a try. currently the only thing that gets red from the sun are my fingers! and the get all swollen :/
