Hi DMsucksss, I did get shaky hands with high Prednisone dosages. Two things that are most important for high Prednisone - I would check my blood sugars using a test kit. High doses of Prednisone raises blood sugars. I had to eat a lot of leafy green veggies to keep sugars in normal range. I avoided breads, corn, starches like spaghetti, juices, etc.. to maintain normal blood sugars. I would eat several small meals with low sugar foods like lots of salads to keep sugars down and avoid feeling hungry. Do discuss diet with your doctor too.

Secondly, high doses of Prednisone means watch the pressure in the eyes. I always see the eye doctor if I need to go up on Prednisone and I get a pressure check.

It was "normal" for my heart to race on occasion with high doses of Prednisone. Once your DM CPK gets way down and your disease is under control, you will be able to begin the slower taper down from the 20mg. I just sort of suffered through the discomfort since I knew the medication was helping to strengthen my muscles. I will say those beginning days of DM helped me to be more prayerful.

If you google Prednisone side effects then there are many articles available. It is important to know the side effects of Prednisone and your other DMARD which slows down disease progress. The website www.drugs.com is helpful to read up on medications. Do not be afraid of the side effects, but do watch carefully. Many side effects are usually mild. It is the long-term use of DMARDs that is something that the doctor watches with blood work. Do visit The Myositis Association website since there is a lot of good information available.
