Polymyositis (PM) is a type of chronic inflammation of the muscles (inflammatory myopathy) related to dermatomyositis and inclusion body myositis. The inflammation is predominantly of the endomysium in polymyositis, whereas dermatomyositis is characterized by primarily perimysial inflammation.

I have MTCD but present with primarily polymyositis. I have had it for about 8 years now. One of my first noticeable signs was numbing on the right side of my face. I have noticed the bottom of my feet get numb intermittently and now notice that my index finger is getting numb.

Does anyone know if this is most likely caused by MTCD and if there is anything that can be done. I went to my Family Doctor and she said its probably nothing to worry about and maybe get a massage and stretch. I'm wondering if there is anything you can do and maybe I should make an appointment with my Reheumatoligist specialist?

My feet also get numb occasionally, or tingle, or hurt. Also, some of my fingers and parts of my arms can get numb or tingly. Massages do help, so I go regularly again. I used to get acupuncture treatments before I moved, but am not able to find an acupuncturist in my small town. Best wishes to you.

Hi Cadolph, I am much like Nanny with tingle in my feet. My legs and/or arms might hurt bad for no good reason. My arms & legs might hurt just from touch too. I have been checked at the neurologist for nerve issues too. My nerve issues seem to come and go. I find basic exercise seems to help. I like to walk or ride a stationary bike.

I hope you find what is going on with your nerves. My pains are inconsistent so I am not on meds for the pains.

Hi Cadolph. I think we all get some kind of numbness, I get it in my feet. Next time you see your Rheumatologist ask if you might have mild Reynaulds. I have that too and it affects two fingers on my right hand, no treatment for it but I try not to let my fingers get cold or carry bags which might restrict the blood flow to my fingers. Best wishes.
