Polymyositis (PM) is a type of chronic inflammation of the muscles (inflammatory myopathy) related to dermatomyositis and inclusion body myositis. The inflammation is predominantly of the endomysium in polymyositis, whereas dermatomyositis is characterized by primarily perimysial inflammation.

Myositis Awareness Day is September 21st

I was looking forward to meeting all the people at Myositis Australia in my home town of Sydney Australia but unfortunately it is on in the 3 hours I work! Are you doing anything for Myositis awareness?

The Myositis Association (TMA) has an annual conference, which several people here plan to attend next weekend in Las Vegas. I'm not able to go this year, but hope to do so in the future. On a current thread about that meeting, there is a web link to enable you to watch some of the sessions. You might want to try watching these broadcasts on ustream, or checking to see if Myositis Australia has anything similar for you. Hope you are well and that you will be able to participate in your annual awareness activities.

I hope at the meeting someone will discuss finding a medication that gets rid of the excess beta-amyloid that invades the muscles. We could all use better medications than prednisone and MTX. Nanny, I would love to know what the link is to watch a session. If you know of a link then please let us know. Freelee, I hope the Australia meeting is informative. Let us know what you learn.

My plan for Myositis Awareness is Day is to send an email to my State Senator and Congressman. I'm going to tell them a little of my personal story, briefly explain myositis, and make them aware of the need for more government funding for myositis research.
