Polymyositis (PM) is a type of chronic inflammation of the muscles (inflammatory myopathy) related to dermatomyositis and inclusion body myositis. The inflammation is predominantly of the endomysium in polymyositis, whereas dermatomyositis is characterized by primarily perimysial inflammation.

I have DM since 2012. I have not been on any mtx, or Imuran for 8 mo. I have a hemoglobin of 10.4., and a high rdw, and also a low hematocrit. I was thinking that while taking the immunosuppresants that would be expected to possibly have these results.
However, my endocrinologist (have Hashimotos) is thinking I should see a hematologist to have this trend looked at. I should add that prior to DM, my hemoglobin was 12 or higher.
Just wondering if something is destroying my red blood cells before they mature, and if anyone has experienced this. I just do not want increased medical bills, if this is maybe associated with myositis.

After seeing an Hematologist and many tesets his diagnosis is "Iron Deficiency Anemia,
iam taking Vitamines and Iron as supplements,

for colonic inertia. Just not looking forward to more tests, but will schedule appt. I see you said you had many tests. Were they just blood tests? Or something like a bone marrow test?
