Polymyositis (PM) is a type of chronic inflammation of the muscles (inflammatory myopathy) related to dermatomyositis and inclusion body myositis. The inflammation is predominantly of the endomysium in polymyositis, whereas dermatomyositis is characterized by primarily perimysial inflammation.

Hi all, I am due to see the Doctor tomorrow but wondered if anyone on MTX has had quite large itchy red spots appear on their face? They get really itchy when I get hot. Is it a reaction to MTX or the Folic Acid? I am on Prednisone still and Plaquenil - this is the 4th week on the MTX and Folic Acid. My Doctor is fairly OK with my DM but still refers to it as RA!! At the moment I feel like throwing the whole lot of meds away it is so frustrating (I wouldn't but just having a moan).

Hi Amberhere. It could be anything simple . We all get odd things over the months with the Meds. Don't worry about having a moan. We would not be human if travelling this hard road we sometimes did not complain or want to throw all the Meds away. You are in the early days of your treatment. You will get there, you just need time. Hope you are having a better day. Autumm

Hi Amberhere, I am also a member of the itchy red spot club! I have learned that my itchy red spots are symptoms of my fatty liver and chronic kidney disease. My liver will cause my entire body to itch. I have face, stomach, leg and arm itch. I will press down on my skin but it is pointless for me to scratch myself up since it will not be going away. Coconut oil is sometimes helpful as a relief too. I have trouble sleeping at night due to waking up itchy too.

Be sure to mention to the doctor about being a member of the itchy club. The nice thing is there are no club fees for membership. HA!

I have PM so I don't get the rashes but I did find out I get roscesea now. Lovely gift. The good news is I don't need blush anymore! :-)

Ask your doctor about it and ask for a good cream to help with the itch.

Thanks for all your comments - it looks like I may well be joining your exclusive itchy club trpt1!! I did see the Doctor yesterday and he said it could poss be insect bites - they have gone down a bit now so will keep an eye on them.
