Polymyositis (PM) is a type of chronic inflammation of the muscles (inflammatory myopathy) related to dermatomyositis and inclusion body myositis. The inflammation is predominantly of the endomysium in polymyositis, whereas dermatomyositis is characterized by primarily perimysial inflammation.

IBM with DM

Has this happened to anyone? Since my Hubby has been resistant to the meds and is showing atrophy all over with the rash and muscle weakness, they are considering the fact that he may have both IBM and DM. We are submitting a request to John Hopkins (with the help of some friends on this site!) to see if they will take his case. Please pray that he is seen, our Reumatologist has run out of options....

Check out the TMA site. They are currently following a clinical trial for a drug treatment for IBM. It is showing great promise.

I'm sorry to hear about your husband. I'm sure it is tough to adjust to such a significant diagnosis. One of the things I love about the TMA conference is seeing all those fellow Myositis patients together. I'm always inspired by the IBM people. If you can go the conference, I am positive there will be information for you and your husband and a ton of people living well with IBM(and other Myositis).

Hi Pmcki96ey, I will put in prayers that your husband will receive excellent and appropriate treatment for all that he is experiencing. I hope that he can get into JH too.
