Polymyositis (PM) is a type of chronic inflammation of the muscles (inflammatory myopathy) related to dermatomyositis and inclusion body myositis. The inflammation is predominantly of the endomysium in polymyositis, whereas dermatomyositis is characterized by primarily perimysial inflammation.

Has any one taken tacrolimus?

I am currently taking 25 mg of MTX and 9 mg of prednisone as my main drugs and trying to taper the prednisone. My rheumy put me on tacrolimus as well since my disease is still active. I would like to know if any one has taken this new med and what effects did it have on you. Although I have improved over the past 6 months, I still feel sick and fatigued daily. Any thoughts?

Hi Mccourtjs, I have read some accounts on the TMA website on Tacrolimus. I know some people try this med and it seems to have mixed reviews for DM/PM. I have not personally used Tacrolimus. I would try Tacrolimus if my doctor recommended the med.

I feel sick and tired daily too. I think my liver is getting worse. I also have some concerns about my heart. My head will feel like not enough blood is going to the top. Getting tired can be caused by many different things. I am considering supplemental oxygen to see if this might help to avoid getting tired too. I have a visit with the cardiologist and kidney doctor next month. Maybe my doctor visits will shed some light on my sick and tired.
