I just started to drive as well and it sure does make you feel good to have a little independance.Oh and shopping is fun too And you are right about God he is good

So great to hear! It is the little things that makes it easier to see that there is relief in sight. Not being independent is one of the hardest parts of this journey.

Brenda, that's wonderful! I am really happy for you. I didn't drive for the first month - 6 weeks and I remember before I got diagnosed being so weak I could not hold my arms on the steering wheel. Those days are gone! I now am so grateful that I have regained enough strength to get myself around. I don't like to depend on anyone, it's just my nature. And I love Marshalls too!

I am feeling as if I can drive again today, so I plan to go to the store to buy me a pair of shoes to wear to church tomorrow. I gave away most of my shoes, mainly because they were high heels that I don't plan to wear any longer and I need a pair of sandals or flats. I haven't been able to go to church since leaving the hospital and I am as excited as a small child. I watch Joel Osteen and Dr Stanley each Sunday morning, which I will do tomorrow before church, but I want to praise God with others. This is a Blessing.

Yeah!! everytime I do something that I was not able to do when I was really ill I just happy and thankful for feeling so much better. I am glad you are feeling well enough to drive!

I am even excited about going down to the mailbox and taking trash to the dumpster. Now I may may have to drive down to the dumpster, but I can at least throw the bag inside...that is great.

Brenda, I'm so happy your new found independence. Each journey you take, makes you that much closer to your goal of total health.

What great news, Brenda! I'm so happy for you. I can remember driving for the first time after beginning to feel better. It does give you a sense of independence and accomplishment, and you don't feel like such a burden on others. You are correct that we must take one day at a time, as there are still days that I don't feel secure enough to drive. And if I don't feel "on top of my game," then I won't drive and put everyone (including myself) in jeopardy. But, take heart, because most days I am able to drive. BTW, I agree with you--God is so good!

Funny how the little things in life become sooo big when they mess up! I'm very glad for you, Brenda. I'm sure everyone of us here knows how you feel about being independent. My husband drives me when I don't feel up to it, but it's such a good feeling to get into the car and go when and where I want to. And I, too, thank God daily for the strength He provides so I can do the little things. The big things don't matter so much anymore.

Great to hear you are driving again. That is awesome! Just the feeling of freedom has to be great for your motivation! I can't wait to start driving again. I feel like such a burden everytime I have to ask someone to go to the store AGAIN. But I know things will get better.

i thought that it was going to be much longer before I could drive again, but I always talk to my legs and pray to God to make them work again. My daughter didn't have a problem taking me places, but she worked a different shift than I did and we had only one day off that was the same. I had recently submitted an application to our local bus system for their door to door pickup service, so that I could have a little more freedom, but I haven't heard anything from them yet.

I would still like to have that option of them picking me up, so that I don't have to drive long distances, such as to my doctors' offices, which are about 20-30 miles away. I drove to church today which is only across the street, but I couldn't take the chance to walk it because of the traffic and I didn't want to be road kill.

I am so grateful and look forward to each day.

Isnt it crazy how much we miss the little things..I have been trying and trying to make people understand how hard it is to just ask for help when we depend on people for little things...so glad to hear you are getting some independence back! ROCK ON SISTER!

I have never been a person who felt comfortable asking anyone for help, but have always been there to help others. I am better at accepting an offer of help now than I am at asking. I think that some of it goes back to childhood and my fear of rejection. If I didn't ask I didn't have to hear the word no, but it would be so nice to have others offer. My poor daughter has carried the load of helping me alone and now she has injured her ankle and I am helping her. If you were to see us hobbling along, you would laugh. We laugh at ourselves. I am stronger than she is and have been waiting on her. She starts beauty school on Monday and I think that I may have to drive her to school.

Life is amazing. God gave me my strength in just the right time; His time.
