Polymyositis (PM) is a type of chronic inflammation of the muscles (inflammatory myopathy) related to dermatomyositis and inclusion body myositis. The inflammation is predominantly of the endomysium in polymyositis, whereas dermatomyositis is characterized by primarily perimysial inflammation.

ER visit

Sent my neurologist an email today regarding the pain that I have been having over the past three weeks. I feel as if my thighs are in a vise grip and my stomach churns go bad that it feels as if my intestines are tied in a knot and he advised me to go to the ER to be checked out. I truly do not want to go out there, but I guess I have no choice.

I was asking him for a referral to the pain management clinic because OTC meds aren't working and this is what I get. Well at least they can refer me to the pain mgmt clinic. Of course I will be there for hours on end and have a load of blood work done, all of which I hate. After 17 days of inpatient care, I just hate going back to the hospital, but I have to look on the bright side. I have insurance that will cover the cost. I have met my deduction so I shouldn't have to pay a ER copay and hopefully they will figure out what is what.

I will take my Nicholas Sparks novel, snacks and prepare for a long wait. Again I am not going to let this get me down. At least I am not missing work because today and tomorrow are my off days. I also applied for a new job today.

Brenda, Sorry to hear you have to go through so much and jump through such hoops to get a referral, but I've learned in life through the medical profession that one seldom goes straight from point A to Point B. Good luck and keep us posted. You'll in my prayers,

Brenda - so sorry you are not feeling well - that is exhausting. I hope they help you in ER today and that it goes quicker. You have a great attitude and yes, Thank God we have insurance.

So sorry to hear of your continued struggles and that you must go through the ER. I will say a prayer that they quickly and accurately diagnose the cause of your leg problems. Please let us know the results. Here's wishing you a quick visit and good results.

Sorry to hear of these latest problems. :( I know exactly what you mean about hating going to the ER. I have been there a couple of times myself these past couple of months. I will say though that the last visit which my husband had to get other family members involved to convince me to go actually ended up being a Godsend. The ER doc that was there is the one who ordered my HIDA scan which showed my gallbladder wasnt functioning properly. Hopefully you will get some answers. -Angie

I survived my ten hour stay in the ER. I don't get it why they call it an emergency room when people aren't treated as if they are in an emergency. I worked in the healthcare field for many years and actually triaged patients and I saw people in awful pain waiting for hours, while those who were joking around and displayed no signs of actual pain being called back into the treatment area first. I sat for over 4 hours before being called back to a room and also had to remind them that I am a diabetic and had not been tested or eaten for many hours.

I was given something for my pain, but they were not able to tell me anymore than I already suspected that it is probably my PM that is causing all of my pain. They would not refer me to the pain management clinic. I am calling my primary today for a referral and hope that she will do it without me going in to see her and paying another copay. They gave me morphine at the hospital which helped my pain and gave me a RX for Percocet. I mainly want to try to manage my pain without drugs, but if I have to take pain killers for now I will.

On the bright side while sitting in the waiting room, I came across a brochure for a local company that has a special on business cards and a company that prints t-shirts. These are two of the things that I need for my home based businesses. I am putting together a business plan to have some t-shirts printed that have Christian sayings on them for my 10 year old granddaughter, her best friend and I to sell with my cakes and I had been looking for a local company to print my business cards. God is always watching out for me. All is going to be fine.
