i developed the rash after a sunburn that never went away and yes its on the back chest and i have some on my arms. with mine i havent noticed it come and go or more pronounced when i am ready to go to bed. although i must say its not as bad as it was at first. now if i get any sun exposeure on those areas then holy hell i feel like a bear in the woods scratching every tree, the world becomes my scratching post.. i try and use a shea butter based lotion to tame the scalyness of the rash and it sometimes helps with the itch too. and when i wear sleeveless tops i use a sun screen based lotion so the rash doesnt get irritated. regardless of what i put on for it the red color doesnt ease just the dryness and itchiness. wish i could help more. hope you find some comfort.

DM rashes are usually more purple in color, while lupus rashes are redder. Typical locations are face (including eyelids), neck, upper chest, shoulders, upper back, arms, and outer surface of thighs. My DM rash never really goes away but gets darker and heavier when I have sun exposure or a flare.

Since sclero also affects skin, I don't know if a skin biopsy would given any useful information. I suggest that you ask you dermatologist if the rash is anything to worry about.

Luckybee, unfortunately it's a little difficult to show it to ANY doctor, since it only appears when I'm very tired, just before bedtime.

take pictures of it when it is the worst!!! keep taking them till it shows the best view. Then take that with you.

Hi~I have DM and have a rash on my face and hands. I have had this for about 3 years now and i can say that from my own experience, my rash has never gone away. The rash on my hands can look more purple or less purple on any given day, but is still always present.
