Hi Ricky23 - I have found that being a year on Prednisolone has affected my taste (I assume it is the steroid) - everything tastes the same now which is not much - a bit of a nuisance as I am a chocoholic and that doesn't have the same taste anymore. My nose does run more when I try to do the taper, as many people here now know of my unsuccessful tapers! I don't have a sore nose though.

Hi Ricky. People do complain of loss of taste. I lost my sense of smell but slowly it's recovering . Any maybe infection on prednisone you need to mention to your doctor as we can get the odd infection with the Pred, so mention your nose to him. Hope its all going well for you now. Autumm

Hi Ricky23, Two months before my first DM flare, I had sinusitis. I lost my sense of taste and smell. My ENT doctor wanted to do sinus surgery, but I decided against doing a surgery. The doctor gave me an antibiotic called Cefdiner. The antibiotic did not seem to do much and a couple weeks later I took Cefdiner again. After I finished the Cefdiner the second time, my arms became weak and my CPK went to 1300.

Sinus problems can be part of DM/PM. Do discuss your sinus issues with the doctor too.

Yes chocolate does not taste the same! At mealtimes im leaving a lot of food as I just don't want it... tastes of nothing... adding liads of salt but makes no difference! So now I try and eat what I fancy trouble is it nearly all comes from M & S foodhall!!
I feel so well on the tablets now .. pain gone. But rash is stubborn. But the pain was the one thing I struggled with. I am doing so much more. I see my Oncologist and Rheumatology in next 2 weeks so fingers crossed.
What can I expect to feel when they start to taper? Is it an easy process or difficult?
I wouldn't have any more surgery for my nose etc... had way to much surgery with the cancer just want to be left now!!!

Hi Rocky. Don't add extra salt. It's really bad for you at anytime but does not help at all when you are taking prednisone. I am so glad the pain is gone. Don't worry about your taper, some people find the withdrawal tough and some people don't have any problems at all. I had minor issues with some joint pain and other aches and pains. The trick is to tell the difference between the disease and the withdrawal and push through if possible to the next taper. We are here and we will help you. Best wishes. Autumm

Hello Ricky. I haven't really lost my sense of taste, but everything tastes like metal to me and I can't add too many spices to anything as others say that I ahd too much salt, sugar or whatever. I think that in my case it is the Prednisone.
