I haven't had bleeding gums but 3 years into Prednisone, I had recessed gums and needed a gum graft which surprised me. Because the medications can give us dry mouth, it is critical that you have very thorough dental care. I brush and floss twice a day and go to the dentist every 6 months without pause.

If it continues, I would see your dentist.

I haven't experienced the bleeding gums but have noticed my teeth are much more sensitive to heat and cold.

Right before I was diagnosed I was getting my teeth cleaned and my hygenist said my gums were bleeding a lot. That didn't usually happen with me so in hindsight I feel it was the DM. Snce it effects your skin and blood it stands to reason that it would manifest in gums as well.

I use a product called Biotene mouthwash that helps with dry mouth. Like Lexisgirl, I go to the dentist every six months for a cleaning & check. If your gums bleed, remember that prednisone can cause osteoporosis which will make your gums recede. A bisphosphonate to treat the osteoporosis can cause severe mouth infections in some people. Good dental care is very important. Do not use listerine too much because the alcohol can contribute to receding gums even though it kills germs. Use listerine occasionally and a mouth wash that helps with dry mouth regularly. Lexisgirl mentioned to floss frequently and that helps the most. Do not use an electric toothbrush because it will also contribute to gum recession. A regular manual toothbrush and a good flouride paste work well. These are the things that I do and I hope it helps.

I use powdered white oak bark it tightens the gums not such a bad taste but worked for me.
