Polymyositis & Dermatomyositis Support Group
Polymyositis (PM) is a type of chronic inflammation of the muscles (inflammatory myopathy) related to dermatomyositis and inclusion body myositis. The inflammation is predominantly of the endomysium in polymyositis, whereas dermatomyositis is characterized by primarily perimysial inflammation.
My doctor said not many can get off successfully but it is worth a try. The goal should be to get as low as you can. Around 7 mg, you are taking the same amount as your body creates on it's own. The side effects start reducing too which is nice.
I hope you can continue to taper and get off too.
You know tapering is not a race. Some people have been very successful to get off of Prednisone, by switching to a different form of corticosteroid like Medrol or Hydrocortisol. There are different blends of steroid that might be helpful to aide in getting off the steroid, especially when you hit the 5mg and below levels.
There are several people who have experience with the different blends of corticosteroids that might be able to give their below 5mg tips and experiences.
