It help me. Now i am in remission.

i've taken imuran (azathioprine) for a long time now. in the past this drug has helped me go into remission with my dm. i've been on it with this most recent relapse of dm for a few months shy of a year.
in the beginning it can make a person REALLY nauseous, but generally your body will get used to it. how much are you taking per day? i take 150 mg and my doc initially started me out the first week taking 50mg which made me just feel kinda like i could be sick all the time. then of course i went up 50mg per week.
you MUST take this medicine with a meal. not a snack, but a meal. drink LOTS of water all throughout the day. the nausea should get better in time. if you're taking more than 50mg make sure you split the dosage. i take 50mg in the morning with breakfast and i take the other 100mg w/dinner.
usually i get a minimum of one side effect with each medicine i try because i'm just really sensitive which is why i don't take anything unless absolutely necessary, but with imuran i did pretty good. i did find myself having more issues with heart burn once he bumped me up even further to 150mg, but my doctor put me on a medicine for a few weeks for that and i feel MUCH better.
that's my story! hope you're doing ok with it and that it can start helping you to feel better!
i am on only 1 tab (ipresume 50 but too lazy to walk upstairs and check) for 6 weeks and them double so i will take your god advice and split dose. Thanks.
