Polymyositis (PM) is a type of chronic inflammation of the muscles (inflammatory myopathy) related to dermatomyositis and inclusion body myositis. The inflammation is predominantly of the endomysium in polymyositis, whereas dermatomyositis is characterized by primarily perimysial inflammation.

Hello everyone I have had PM since 2007 and I have never had any pain associated with this. But on Thursday morning I became very weak and stiff and had a lot of pain. By the time I got to the hospital I couldn't move any part of my body. I'm home now but still can't move my left leg as much. I was wondering if this has every happened to any one else ??

My flare came on in a matter of 3 days and yes i was nearly imobile... I am so sorry...
Do you have expert care??

I have had similar flares, mine have occurred within a 12-24 hr period. And oddly some seem to favor one side of the body on me, like my left elbow and left knee will both get stiff amd sore at the same time, leaving my right elbow and knee ok... Ive had to learn to be ambidextrous and switch which side I use for daily stuff based on whats going on at the time...

Hi Blackhorse. I am sorry to read your post. I certainly had lots of pain before diagnosis but not since. If this is a flare I do hope your docs are on top of it and you feel well again soon. It is strange how these things can return with the changing of the seasons. Best wishes to you. Autumm

Hi Blackorse32, I had a mild flare a couple weeks ago. My recent flare did feel different than previous flares too. This disease is weird with all the strange new feelings that show up. I was weak, so I did see the cardiologist. My heart seems fine. I now have some high BP concerns so I see the kidney doctor next week.

I hope your meds will work quickly and effectively to come out of the flare. The blood work will help to give some direction.

Before my initial diagnosis, I was barely able to move anything from the jaw downward. On my upper body the right side was weaker, but on the lower half of my body, the left side was weaker. The neuro didn't seem surprised at one side being weaker than the other. Best wishes to you for a speedy return to remission.

Hi I do have expert care. And all of my blood work was fine except for one my adrenaline function was very low it was 0.but it still don't answer the question why I have so much weakness on my left side especial my left leg. They are sending me for an MRI to find out if it was a stroke.even though they did and CT scan thanks everyone
