I'm proposing here for the first time, a new term called Neo-Poly ( or Neopoly ). It is my hope that this evolution in polyamory will catch-on, and in doing doing so, solve a wide range of issues that poly people face because of a lack of consesus within the community about what polyamory is. 

Neo-Poly Defined:

Neo-Poly ( also Neopoly )
noun:

1. An ethical, romantic relationship between two or more partners.

Example: Q. Are you in a monogammous relationship? A. No. My relationship is neopoly.

2. The capacity or preference for ethical romantic relationships between two or more partners

Example: Q. Are you mongammous? A. No. I'm neopoly.

What is the Difference?

Historically speaking, the principles of traditional polyamory require appreciable romantic interrelatedness between all partners, without which, the relationship dissolves into various levels of swinging. Although there is nothing unethical about swinging per sé, poly people sometimes don't like being classed as swingers.

Neo-poly bridges the gap between swinging and polyamory by removing the classical requirement for interelatedness between all partners, but retains the idea of non-superficial romantic interelatedness between two or more partners. This is a more accommodating situation because it seems more the way things naturally are.

Neo-poly relationships might even be considered more ethical than traditional poly relationships because of its respect for individual feelings and freedoms. After all, our freedom from relationships we don't want is at least as important as our freedom to engage in those we do want. Neo-poly relationships facilitate this without wading into the shallow-end of the swinging pool.
