Hi all
Just wondering if anyone else has experienced a break up due to being polyamorous. Recently I was in a stable relationship with a fellow LGBTQ partner but after I explained I was polyamorous it created a rift in the relationship and we broke up. I explained that I was committed to the relationship and if anything ever changed and I wanted to pursue another relationship I'd talk to them but they felt uncomfortable and said they couldn't stop imagining me dating mutual friends (probably not helped by the fact that I'm bi) or even cheating on them.
Does anyone else feel it's quite common for people to immediately assume you're incapable of monogamy and break it off with you?
I have a friend (we'll call him M) who is also bi and poly, he tells everyone up front that he is bi and poly and will most likely date and have feelings for people outside of the relationship that he's pursuing. Hes very open and honest about it all. He's done the monogamous relationship when someone he deeply cared about requested it from him but even after two years the person he was with still doubted that M could really love him because of M's poly nature, it didn't end well at all.
I'm not sure if either of these stories are helpful at all, just my experiences with poly people in mono relationships.
