My husband has been in the police for 9 years and only recently I have become more isolated and felt more alone (i am sure he feels the same too). The change in the shift pattern has completely ruined our social lives (what little social life we had anyway) and I am actually starting to resent my life choices. I'm fed up of being alone, or a third wheel. Most social functions I'm the 'single parent' or single one in the group because he is always at work. Because of the shifts I cannot commit to anything for me, not even a weekly exercise class or slimming world meet. I cannot lunch with the girls at work (because I have to work through lunches for flexi time, allowing to cover his shifts for school runs) and an actual date woth husband is a twice a year occurrence. I have family to help but to be honest o struggle to rely on anyone, I feel so let down by them all, they can see how much we struggle but only come back with empty offers of childcare help.
I feel like I cannot speak to anyone about this because I come across ungreatful and selfish. This was our life choice so we need to deal with it.
Please, I'm not the only one who feels like this am I?
