Why is this happening? I have now been dealing with diagnosed pmdd for over a few years. In reality I've probably had it my entire life. I love my family very much but those 10 days before my cycle starts I am a living Nightmare and what's worse is that even though I am aware that my emotions are in a heightened state I still cannot pull myself out of it. I am putting my family through crap once a month and I just don't know what to do anymore it's getting to a point where I don't think my husband really wants to deal with it. it's becoming too hard on him. I hate the feeling of loneliness, failure, rage, anxiety, stress, crying, and the list goes on on. I'm so frustrated with this disease and I think I'm just at my wits ends on how to cope with it or how to get my family to understand that I really do need their help and support through this time.
Have you discussed any treatments with your doctor? Maybe having your husband come in with you to an appointment for some information on the disorder would be helpful? I know the struggles of PMDD and the tole it takes on our loved ones. I’m sorry you are all struggling. Best of luck to you!
Jill, I haven't had him come with me yet and maybe I need to. I know he often forgets that I have this struggle and is less than sensitive when its full blown. My doctor put me on the iud and Prozac (start 10 days before and stop when cycle starts) Which I think would have worked great but with the iud I can never tell when my cycle is coming and by the time I realize it, Its to late.
Yes, have him come! My doctor recommended it for me. Sometimes these disorders can be taken less than seriously because they aren’t problems that can actually be seen.
I take 225mg of Effexor ER ans it has changed my world!! I also do not take birth control as every kind made my PMDD symptoms worse. But I also already have two kids so I got my tubes tied (knowing I was done) so I don’t need any pregnancy preventative methods. The copper IUD is supposed to have no hormones and might be less interfering with your PMDD symptoms?
I also keep a daily journal tracking my moods, the meds and doses I take, and when my period is. I’ve been doing it since August of 2017 and I can see major trends of when my symptoms appear. This helps my (and my boyfriend) prepare for the onset of symptoms.
Jill, thank you so much. Sometimes it's just nice to talk to someone who understands because your right alot of people don't understand it. Thankfully today is much better than yesterday and I can see the light again. I have 4 kids which I am done also, I have had my tubes tied. My Dr put me on the IUD because in addition to PMDD I had these heaviest periods so I think she was trying to handle both and then the Prozac as well. Whew it is a battle though. I tried yesterday to just talk my self through it one encouraging comment after another trying to put one foot in front of the other. It was hard, had a couple of set backs, but at the end of the day I got a little done and managed not to feel like utter and total crap. I will definitely start on that journal writting. That is a great idea. Thank you.
You’re welcome! I know how talking to someone who understands can help. I’ve heard (from my doctor who diagnosed me with PMDD) that Effexor is the most effective antidepressant for PMDD. But I have talked to many women who are on Prozac. I’m proud of you for getting yourself through yesterday and putting one foot in front of the other. Sometimes that what it takes and it’s all we can do! Give yourself some credit! You’re not alone and I’m always here if you need to talk. Or need advice. You can post a discussion or PM me.
