I'm new to the board and have been battling and losing to PMDD for the past 4 years. I have been on benzodiazapenes to try to control symptoms, at first just taking them in the weeks leading up to my period, but am now taking them daily. I am currently trying to use the Nuvaring. It was hell for 2 months, depressed, suicidal thoughts, like I had PMS everyday with no break. Then my mood started getting better, but because my doctor recommended using the ring continuously for 3 months with no period, I started having issues with spotting and bleeding. Then they switched me to 2 rings in a row, still have bleeding. Now I will be using it just once a month, but have no idea if it will help the PMS. All thru this I'm still suffering depression and extreme irritability, like my body is fighting to try to have a period. I also need to add that I'm also at the beginning of perimenopause.
Being on hormones has destroyed my sex life. I have no libido, no ability to become aroused and orgasms either aren't achieved or feel like a muscle spasm, with no pleasure. My husband has no patience for the mood swings or the lack of enthusiasm about sex. I can't seem to do anything right and he says that I seem angry all the time. He also has very little sympathy for my sexual problems because I chose to take the hormones knowing that might happen.
I don't know what to do. Is it worth continuing to try different hormones? Should I be looking at antidepressants? I've tried some supplements, I exercise 3-5 times a week and I've tried to cut down on sugar. Sorry I know this is alot, just desperate for support or ideas.

I'm new here, too. I know how you feel. I have the same issues with my husband. He only thinks about himself, how this affects him, I get no compassion. Men think you can control it, get it together. They know it's hormonal and biochemical, so how can anyone expect you to get control of that!?! I really don't have much to say in the way of positive help. I'm in the midst of a bad pmdd episode right now. Just know there are a lot of other women who feel your pain. You are not alone.

I take Yaz birth control pill to supress ovulation. I take an SSRI for the rest. This has made my PMDD more mangeable. I hope this helps.

Birth control didn't help for me either, just made things worse. Take your husband to the dr with you, let the dr explain in detail that 'you cannot just get yourself together' if you had a broken leg you couldn't just heal it by thinking about it right? Same thing. I'm hoping your husbands callousness are just his way of showing his hurt. (Most men really do not understand unless they are taught about Pmdd) but ultimately you can't help anyone unless you take care of yourself first! Get off the birth control if it's making you sick, try something else, do it for you first, then worry about everything else
