Hello Everyone- I have been dealing with debilitating PMDD since I was 12. I am now 39. I think I stumbled upon a viable treatment option!
I have tried: SSRIs, 5-HTP, LDN, birth control pills, mirena IUD, paleo diet, bioidentical progesterone, exercise, Vitex, various herbs, essential oils, etc. (nothing worked)
It felt like death. Awful, horrid, debilitating dysphoria.
I WANTED to try Lupron, with the goal of a hysterectomy. I was defeated by insurance, who would not pay a dime towards the Lupron, which would cost about $1,000 a shot, per month.
I begged my integrated health physician for something, anything. She shoved progesterone down my throat. That didn't help me. She said it should, but I said it DOES NOT!!! Finally, I asked for estrogen cream, reasoning that if I can back-fill the estrogen drop that occurs with ovulation...that may help.
She prescribed BIEST, a compounded bioidentical estrogen cream. I rubbed it on the top of my foot....and within a half hour, I felt good! I went from, "I want to kill myself," to...feeling great, almost euphoric. I felt like I do before I ovulate. AWESOME.
I did a lot of research. I stumbled across Dr. Studd, a U.K. Physician who prescribes estrogen cream for PMDD. I read his publications, and I am working with my Dr. to appropriately balance the estrogen cream with just enough bioidentical progesterone.
I am cautiously optimistic. I think I have found my cure. It's only been a few weeks, but I know that I am on the right track.
Anyone else out there try this??? I feel excited but so alone in my journey! I want to share my story!!! Next steps - figuring out how to live a normal life. Lol.
