I'm thinking about deleting my DS profile. I got DS years ago when asked to be a co Admin for another group. That group has since mostly migrated to Facebook, with little activity left here on DS. Heck, I am hardly ever here anymore, myself.
But I wanted to leave this group in particular with something positive.
You can (and most likely will!) make your PMDD better. And even if you don't, hey, it will end with menopause -- which happens way sooner than you'd think.
I initially got control of the PMDD with SSRIs, and changed birth control to a type that deals with it. In a couple years, insurance called to inform me they would no longer pay for the SSRI that worked perfectly for me with no side effects, but would be happy to pay for another SSRI that didn't work very well us made me insanely paranoid. I told them what they could go to to themselves, and stopped taking the SSRIs.
And ya know what? It was okay! The new birth control HAD THIS. I have been fine for years now on that alone.
Now, it's not just the hormones, of course. I'm getting older--that seems to help. I stopped having babies, that really helps (last studies I read on the subject were showing that PMDD gets worse after each baby.) And whatever you are doing to help your condition--exercise, eating well, plenty of sleep, lots of water, vitamins, talk therapy for any other depression-- it all adds up!
I hardly even think about PMDD anymore, I haven't had a symptom in a long time.
So you CAN do it, you can beat it. Don't give up, just keep looking for what works for you.
