I was diagnosed with a microprolactinoma back in 2007. I found out I had this pituitary tumour from a blood test as I was feeling run down and fatigued. It seemed like the worst news ever at the time. I had an MRI first to determine how big the tumour was and where it was. They found it pressing against the optic nerve and was told I could've lost my sight. Luckily, it was treatable with meds so they put me on cabergaline first. That stuff sent me crazy, I was aggressive, confrontational and just totally out of character. After 3 months of being on it, I'd asked my consultant to take me off it and try something else as it was affecting my home and work life. I was then put in quinagolide. However one side affect with this one is that it would make me infertile. Weird thing is whilst in this new medication my wife and I found out we would be having a baby. Anyway, the tumour measured 12mm at first then starting reducing in size over the next two years. I had regular MRI's every 6 months. No negative side effects from meds but my hormone imbalance stabilised. I felt calmer and more adjusted in my life. The weird thing I could not get my head around is that in nearly all cases I never heard of a male getting this type of adenoma. But hey, here I am. I was cleared of it in 2012 and now in 2017, I've got one again. Have only had blood tests so far, just awaiting first MRI to see what damage there is. Got to keep positive and just hope all will be ok again.
