Hello, I joined this group to hopefully learn more about peripheral neuropathy.
I have had the symptoms in my feet for a couple of years, tingling, sharp pains, sensation of rough skin between the toes, numbness or wooden feeling toes etc. all at random intervals.
Part of my motivation to join and learn is that my Mother suffers from the same symptoms, only hers is worse.
With Mom's symptoms keeping her awake at night, I'm looking to see what helps other folks who are also "enjoying the ride"
Thanks.
Hi TobyM - I am new to this group. I notice that it is inactive except for your post of April 6, 2016. I have been looking for a support group to share the "ride". I have heard that this condition runs in families . My sister, who is 95, complains about her neuropathy. I have been tested for every toxicity under the sun, but everything checks out OK, although I do have elevated A1c levels. I haven't been diagnosed as being diabetic, though. I currently take Neurontin, which helps me a bit, but doesn't stop the tingling and numbness and pain in my legs. My biggest concern was being able to get to sleep. The Neurontin helps with that, combined with Aleve, IB, or another over-the-counter pain med. Now I need to add another Neurontin in the morning to keep me active during the day. My Doctor suggested I try Alpha-lipoic acid. That is mainly for diabetic neuropathy.
I'm taking TOPAMAX 100 mgs a day. It helps a little. The best thing for me is to limit the time I'm standing or walking! I also rub Aspercream with Lidocaine on my feet, it helps too! I am not diabetic, my Dr has taken me off of cholesterol medication (statins) since they can have an adverse effect of causing peripheral neuropathy. I have been having very bad toe cramps with the PN pain. Over the counter CVS brand leg cramp pain relief caplets (homeopathic) work like magic to take the cramps away! Neurontin did not work for my pain. Best regards to you & your Mom...
Hello I am new to this group was hoping to find out more about PN to tell a little about myself I'm 32 years old and have had problems with my legs ever since I was a little kid. In this past year my legs have go numb and tingle multiply times a day. All this came about 3 years ago when I went to the doctor because I tore my quad muscle in my thigh. Does anybody else wear leg braces for PN I wear a kafo on my left mainly for injury to thigh years ago and an afo on right for the muscle strength loss and it helps tith the pain of PN.
Best of luck to you
