My counselor taught me rather than fight it or try to distract yourself from it, just let go and let it happen!
It sounds a bit strange and a hard thing to do, i mean as soon as you feel it coming on, its frightening and you want to run from it like its a big scary monster, but think about it, its happened lots of times and its passed lots of times and your ok. Its like a headache, we except headaches, we just take a pill, we dont immediately go into a blind panic of.. OMG ive got a headache what shall i do? Panic panic!
So next time you feel it coming on, say to yourself "oh ok Ive felt this before, come on then do whatever your going to do and then i get on with what i was doing" Dont fight it, go with it, once you start to learn not to fear it, it looses its power over you.
