Thank God for this site.  I can relate to most of the stories on here.  Except my relationship didn't last as long.  

I left my passive aggressive fiancé.  He once treated me like a princess. 

It was difficult to reconcile seeing a completely different person who started treating me with disrespect, denigrated my values, ridiculed anything I liked and just appeared to hate me all around.  This happened over the course of 2 years, speeding up in the final 6 months before I left him.

He gaslighted me.  He projected.  He transferred his sick borderline comorbid with narcissism ex onto me.  His therapist that was supposed to help him adjust his behavior from their sick relationship 10 years ago.  Instead, she enabled him and he took out his anger on me for his ex's sick behavior.

I got sick of his lack of empathy towards me.  His entitlement.  His arrogance.  His common passive aggressive comments:

Him:  I didn’t say that.

Me:  I have it recorded that you said that.

Him:  Well I didn’t mean that.  You can’t tell me what I mean. 

Or:

What you fail to realize is…

What people fail to realize is…

Or: 

Me:  You do xyz and this hurts/bothers me

Him:  You do it too!!  (this is usually not true)

I could write down these statements and a couple more on index cards and guess which one he’s going to throw out during any conversation where we’re discussing how he treats me.  Or how he lies to me.  I wish I had realized that it wasn’t a small thing the first time I threatened to record him.  I felt like he was trying to wear me down.  He was.  He got worse until he became somewhat of a monster to me.  By the time I left, I recognized that he was abusive.  He was willing to try to recreate reality and force me to accept it as truth.  He would emotionally abuse me to get me to break down, then pat my head afterwards.  He did the mutt and jeff routine on me.  Or in his words, it was the pimp and the whore scenario. 

How sick is that?

Life is too short.  He can choose the type of life he wants to live.  His kids have been alienated from him by his sick ex-wife.  He has pushed me away with his abuse.  He can live alone or find another victim. 

If anyone ever tries to argue with me and wear me down about reality, I will walk away and never look back.  I wish I had known better earlier.  I thank God that I came to my senses and got out.
