I am so sorry to hear about your son! I've been in a situation in which my older son barely talks to me.. I have been having a very hard time with it. I decided to go to counseling. It's really helping me. I still feel sad but I feel like I am getting some control over my life again. I'm sure that you were a good mom. Don't blame yourself! You gave birth to him! You did your best under difficult circumstances. That's all you can do! You are not a dummy! I wish you peace and happiness! If you want to talk, please write me!

Thank you so much for responding, it is good to know that I am not alone. His birthday is this week June 12th to be exact and I think this is going to be a hard day for me. I think about him almost everyday, family keep a fair distance away, I get messages from my sister who does text him from time to time, she keeps me posted, but my biggest fear is I wont be able to recognize him if I don't have any contact with him. Every 3 months isn't very often, at all. Maybe if you bothered to put in the effort to be supportive and caring every three months instead of complaining about it you might have had a better relationship with your son.

We all have "many" personal details which go much further in depth as to what caused our estrangement with our adult children; in my situation it's my 29 yr. old daughter. I've just joined this forum and having read through many posts and responses I'm at a loss as to "3sidestoeverystory" and your comments towards everyone in here asking for a kind ear. You seem to be blaming everyone in here and your sarcastic responses are indeed sarcastic and hurtful; before I continue within these forum walls could you kindly explain why you feel the need to chastise everyone who's simply in here to get some guidance, empathy and support from others........being estranged from one's child is a non-ending dagger stabbing one with emotional pain and loss. I don't quite understand your volatile responses.

To those reaching out for warmth and support please note not all of us have lost our sensitivity chip, I have no trouble listening and trying to help those in the same place for which I am and have been since my daughter became an older teen.

My son hurt me too and when he was arrested for it I paid the lawyer to get him off. Don't feel stupid I understand no patent wants to feel responsible for their child being in jail. Dislike the man but the child you raised is still precious and alive in your heart. It's so sad when this happens hugs

I understand. My son 30 told me he doesnt want to have a relationship with me. My daughter 24 hasn't spoken to me since last September. I've been counseling and medicine for 10 years now. My ex hit me and we got divorced 20 years ago. My kids both talk to their Dad but not me. It hurts. I feel like I have to stuff it down at work. I can't feel that intense level of hurt so long. It's so long. I feel like it breaks my heart. I can't get too much done around home with the depression.

It is sad for a mother when she can't see her dear children's faces and know they are okay. My friends all say to me - oh they'll be back when they need something. So I guess I should rest up now since it could get crazy busy again later. I just miss them. Not the disrespect, blame, unkindness, but the nice times and their dear faces.

I went through some of the same things. It's hard to be mistreated by your children after raising them and doing everything you can for them. My daughter has come around but not my son. I hurts to not be appreciated.

I am dealing with the same thing. Even though I know my son is mentally ill (I took him to therapists over and over again throughout his childhood and he just didn't want to get help and we had crappy therapists as well) it is so painful. He was a joyful, loving little boy and I am just heartbroken all the time. He developed into a cruel young man and he has become so cruel to me that I have to get away from him. But I already know that won't help me feel any better. My daughter did the same thing to me.
