Was estranged but reconciled.
I used to be a member of this group, then my children let me back in. I came back simply to add another perspective. I fully and completely understand how hurtful it is when we are cut out of the lives of our children and grandchildren. I did not see my only 3 grandchildren for 3 years although they lived only a short distance away. They still act uncomfortable around me because they are confused.... they thought someone else was their grandmother then suddenly there I am....
My approach to the estrangement was different than many people on here. I simply refused to let it destroy me. Each Saturday morning I allowed myself a good cry... well it was a sob... came from somewhere deep inside. Then I dried my tears and determined to be happy. I danced, met new people, and made a choice that if I ever was allowed back in, they would meet a beautiful, vibrant woman.
One day it happened. My daughter wanted me back. I welcomed her with open arms, not expecting an apology, not asking “why”. I now spend tons of time with her two sons. They are the joys of my life! And the other grandchildren are slowly understanding who I am in relation to them and call me “grandma”.
My advice to you all is to never give up, but live life to the fullest. Do not let this destroy you. Have fun. Dance. Cook. Make things. Take trips. Fall in love if you are alone. Make new friends. Be yourself to the fullest.
