When my daughter came to me at age 2 and informed me that her father was abusing her I was taken back, I didn't know what to do or where to turn. I immediately got on the internet for some idea as to what to do. I contacted the police department in the town where the abuse took place and filed a report with a detective who was not very kind to the fact that I was an emotional wreck, he was extremely blunt and rude, here I was speaking of my then 2 year old daughter being sexually abused and he was rewording everything to sound like a dirty movie. I suppose it is possible that he was just doing his job and writing the report but that made things very hard for me. Anyways, ended up having to wait until my daughter was 3 to go in for an interview so we waited and we went and they told me she still wasn't old enough.....she was plenty old enough to be abused why can't she speak?? So we then had to wait for age 4 at this point I had asked her father to give up his rights and forget we exsisted in hopes of protecting her from any further abuse as he was attempting to take me to court for visistations. At age 4 she was still bringing things up at daycare and with her grandparents so I took her back and they were amazed that she remembered everything. From here it took about a year and a half to get him prosocuted, he ended up taking a deal and getting only 90 days in jail but 25 years probation with no unsupervised contact with anyone under 18 and obviously a no contact order for my daughter and my self. Anyhow, today I still have no clue as to what it was that she said in her interview aside from the 2 minute "overview" they gave me and it is extremly bothersome especially because I know that her father watched it with his lawyer, why should he get to know and I can't???? Ok sorry don't mean to vent but the entire process has been hard. I guess my biggest thought with this whole little rant here is don't give up just because someone says your child is to young or for any other reason. As parents we know when our little ones are in pain and in need of help and protection. This is never easy but just don't throw in the towel if you are in this boat, ride it out for your children!
