Parenting Newborns & Infants (0-1) Support Group
Feeding your infant and ensuring they are getting enough nutrition is one of the most important aspects of parenting during that first year. This community is dedicated to those who are nurturing a baby, whether breastfed or formula-fed.

I've had 3 babies with reflux. The first one cried non-stop for a year. I thought I'd go insane. Nothing helped. The second one did well with Zantac. Don't know about the gripe water. We tried it but I don't know if it helped or if it was the Zantac. The current one does well with Zantac and Gentle Essential's "Tummy Soother" and the occasional dose of tylenol. (Reflux hurts, sometimes th Tylenol can help.)
Good luck!
I stopped eating dairy and he's also on probiotics--Floragen 3, 1/4 capsule once a day mixed in the bottle he gets once daily. Eventually he just started to get better-we noticed small improvements though he's still generally fussy and demanding. He'll be 3 months old on Christmas, and I'm hoping that he's one of the babies that the colic just sort of disappears at that age. I know how awful and frustrating it is! Sometimes you just have to put them down for your own sanity--they'll cry if you're holding them, they'll cry if you're not. Oh, and eventually our son started to love his swing, too. Do you have one of those? I think unfortunately it's just one of those things you have to wait out. I'm so sorry. I hope you can find something that works; I think every baby with colic is different and just because one thing works for one person doesn't mean it will work for another. Thinking of you! I don't htink it is any predictor of their future personality, no worries! This too shall pass. My mom said I was extremely colicky and I am now a very easygoing, well-liked person (according to most people, anyway :)
Boy, do I feel your pain. My son will be a year old on January 4th, and for the first 6 months of his life we dealt with what was believed to be colic. We only found out a couple of months ago that it is FPIES, which has colic-like symptoms. Its a food protein intolerence - he can't have milk proteins (whey, milk, regular formula, cheese, ect), Soy, and so many foods I can't even list them. He is very limited on what he can have, and we have him on Similac Alimentum (oh, how that changed so much!) because the protein is already broken down. He is doing very well, but any time he has something with a protein that is too much for him, he has the colic symptoms back. They say he should outgrow it by the time he is 3 years old, so I'm really hoping that is true.
We tried everything when he was a baby to get relief. Gripe water, mylicon, reflux meds, and nothing seemed to work. He does have silent reflux, but it doesn't seem to be much of an issue with him, and the reflux meds just seemed to make his tummy worse, so we dont use any of them anymore.
Hope you find some relief soon, but maybe read up on FPIEs and see if the symptoms are similar to what you are experiencing - I was skeptical until I read up on it and I was amazed at how many of the symptoms were exactly what Ethan was experiencing.
He is doing much better now, but he has a very limited diet.
Good luck and I hope this helps!
