Sleeping Through the Night
allhesaysiam
Hello everyone,
My son is 7 months old and isn't sleeping through the night yet. I think we have created a habit of a night time feeding. Any suggestions on how to help him sleep through the night? We have tried the "cry it out" method, but it's so tough.
Thanks!

Not sure if you're still having this problem since I see this is from several months ago (I just joined :-)), but my baby is almost 7 months and I just started "closing the milk machine" between about midnight and 4:00am and having my husband go in to soothe him during that time. He still has a lot of off nights but it is beginning to help. I will feed him as much as he needs before midnight and after 4:00am but it's training him not to need it during that middle of the night time. Sometimes he just needs to be soothed and not actually to eat, but if mommy and her boob come to the rescue it's just too tempting for the little ones! :-) BTW I can't do cry it out either so don't feel bad. Even if they fall asleep like that they are in such a hyperaroused state when they finally finish crying. It's not like a little baby thinks to himself, "Oh, I guess they're not coming to my rescue and I have to be more independent and soothe myself," they just fall asleep out of sheer exhaustion! :-) (I am not knocking the method; just saying you aren't the only one who has difficulty with it and I don't think it's appropriate for all sleep problems. I totally know a few moms who did have to use it but their babies had totally different sleep issues than mine.)

My son is 9 1/2 mths old and still is waking at least 3 times in the middle of the night for a bottle. My husband works 3rd shift, so I am left to do this by myself. My son shares a room with one of my other children. When he cries, he will wake the whole house (any maybe some neighbors). I have tried the "cry-it-out" method and he will continue to cry-getting even louder as time passes. None of my other children (3 others) went through this. They were all good sleepers. It gets very exhausting. Hoping once he turns 1 and he's off the bottle, this will no longer happen.

Is it possible he is teething and that may be the reason for waking up in the middle of the night. We started giving my daughter, who has teeth coming in, Tylenol about 30 min before her bedtime and she has been sleeping through the night now! Good luck to you.
