Only taking an ounce or two at night...

My 6 week old daughter is waking in the middle of the night, like most babies her age. She usually only takes an ounce or two of formula, has a BM, then goes back to sleep.... is she really hungry? Is this something we can help her to let go of this young? Am I supposed to be waking her before I go to bed to feed her? Just looking for thoughts!

I never woke my son to feed him once he was past 4 weeks. Their little tummies are tiny so an ounce or two sounds about right. Is she eating much more than that during the day? She is adorable!

My husband and I are usually up pretty late so we would usually wake my son up again at about midnight to give one last feed...but I didnt breastfeed so I dont know if that makes a difference. If your fine and your baby is fine then I dont see it as a problem.

One of my twins is the same way. She is 5wks and wakes every 2-3hrs on the dot and just BF for 5 maybe 10 min. My dr said that was completely normal. I dont wake my girls up anymore to feed. I just feed on demand. So one feeds like I said every 2-3hrs and the other will go as much as 5 hrs at night between feeds. Every baby is just different. I would give it some time and Im sure in a few months she wont be needing those little "top offs" anymore.

I wouldn't wake her. She might get into the habit of waking (though I did do this with mine at 4 months because when we did sleep training we went from 3 bottles at night to 0, and I thought 12 hours was too long for her to last initially). Yours is too young to sleep train, so just feed her when she wakes, even if it's not very much. Hopefully, she'll start going longer between feeds. I know I felt lucky that mine would eat and go back to sleep and not feel like it was time to play or stay up.

i just fed on demand. if my son slept, i left him there. your daughter should be giving up a feeding soon. our son is in the process of a giving up a night time feeding so he only takes an ounce or two at one of his two feedings. (he's bf and dh gives him a bottle of bm at one feeding and i bf him at the other.) your daughter is also at the tail end of a growth spurt so if she will take it, feed her. we also make my son really wake up on his own to feed and it has to be the hungry cry; otherwise, we just stick his pacifier in his mouth and we go back to bed.
