My baby is almost 4 months old. She has been on Enfamil Nutramigen since December 25 because of bad colics. Lately her stool has been very mushy and yesterday it was almost all water but she only did it once. I was wondering for those who have given hypoallergenic formula to their little ones, how long were they on this formula? I'm thinking it may be time for her to move on to a different formula. She goes in for her 4 month check up next week wednesday but just wanted to get some input from people who have had experience with this. Thanks to those who respond.

My son is only 6 1/2 weeks old but when they put him on the Nutramigan 2 weeks ago due to colic they said that hopefully around 6 months he can go off it, i know a girl I work with said they told her that with her son but when she took him for his 6 month check up they said that they want him to stay on it and be re-evaluated at 9 months so I am wondering the same thing! Its soo expensive!

One of my twins started it at 1 month old. He was one it till he was 4 months. The Dr told me when he was 1 month to wait 3 months then try the regular formula again for a week, if he still has a reaction keep him on the hypoallergenic for another 3 months but he doesn't have a reaction after 1 week then he should be fine. So this kinda answers your question I know yours was on it for bad colic but it works the same way. After 3 months take him to the regular formula for a week and if he gets colic again put him back on the hypoallergenic if he doesn't after a week you should be fine to keep him on the regular.

My twins were on nutramigen since they were 2months old. My daughter is now on neocate which is even more $$$ than nutramigen, for a milk allergy. I asked the pedi at the 6 month appt. when I could at least switch my son off nutramigen, he said to still wait a while. It just depends on the baby. The babie's poop will change. My twins had watery poop about once a day around that age. I would worry if it was consistently runny, but it will change and that is normal. Definitely ask your pedi. Good luck!

My little guy is on Alimentum which is hypoallergenic. Hes been on it since he was about 3 months old. And his dr. said in about 1 month she wants to start him on more of a milk based formula to get him ready for when he starts real milk..

My son has been on nutramagin since he was a month old, he's seven months now. my ped says to keep him on it until he is a year. We tried a different formula at 4 months, but he was still sensitive, so I guess we're stuck til he's a year. His poop was also runny, like paint or yogurt, until we started him on rice cereal.
