Parenting Newborns & Infants (0-1) Support Group
Feeding your infant and ensuring they are getting enough nutrition is one of the most important aspects of parenting during that first year. This community is dedicated to those who are nurturing a baby, whether breastfed or formula-fed.
How much are you paying for in-home child care?

I just posted this in the Pregnancy Support Group but thought I'd get a good response here. I'm due July 17th and have been back and forth on this support group for future advice. Hope that's okay! Thanks!
For those mothers that have returned or plan to return back to work and have opted for in-home daycare, how much are you or will you be paying?
We are meeting with our sitter (or nanny or in-home daycare person or whatever you call them), her name is Courtney, tomorrow evening to discuss what we are going to pay her. She is our closest friends'(whose son is our godson) sitter and will only be watching their 2 1/2 year old 2 days a week. She's a 22 year old college student (studying eduction), taking classes at night. She is not licensed but we know her very well and she's been watching their son since he was born. They also have a 9 year old. We have seen her with those kids and she is absolutely wonderful and they love her. She's dependable and we're so thrilled she's agreed to do this (considering we agree on pay). We will be bringing our baby to our friends' house a mile away the 2 days a week, and Courtney will be coming to our house the remaining 3 days. She will be using our vehicle if she needs to go anywhere and will be eating our food. We also live in Chicago which I know requires probably a higher rate. At this time, she watches our friends' 2 1/2 year old and the 9 year old (who is self sufficient), 4 days a week and they pay her $180 a week. When she starts watching our baby they will only need her 2 days a week. Anyway, our friends keep telling us that they think $300 is a good amount to pay her but we've been asking around and think that might be a little high. Not sure though. We also don't want to risk losing her. The other thing is...don't newborns cost more? Should we drop the price a bit once our daughter gets a little older? If so, at what age? Is that fair? Sorry this post is so long but any comments or advice would be much appreciated. This whole child care thing has been one of the most stressful things throughout my pregnancy!

I called around and the going rate for in home care for a newborn is about 220 a week. I know there are programs that base it off your income and can be as low as 180 a week. I think 300 is high but it depends where you live and the demand. I am not going back to work right away so I won't have to pay for daycare until we move and are settled and will have to find the same thing. Good luck. I hope it works out for you!!

I can't answer all your questions because I just have a nanny 2x a week for 4 hours. But she's a grad student, and she's been coming since my DD was 3 months. And my DD was a very fussy baby. I pay her $12/hr. We're in Houston, which is cheaper than Chicago.

When I nannied for a infant and 2 year old I got $10 an hour and base on 45 hours a week. So It came to around 450 a week. But again that was 2 kids.
