So my almost 4 month old gets up once at night... She eats, I change her and she goes back to sleep within a half hour, usually. Then, I go back to bed only to lay there for HOURS trying to get back to sleep. I have been getting up with her, since I am not back to work yet. My husband gets up on weekends.... Anyways... why can't I get back to sleep? Suggestions? Anyone else in this boat? It's awful... by the time I get back to sleep my husbands alarm is going off or the baby is getting up for the day. :o(

I had this issue for a little while, but once I got back to work my exhausten (sp?) level solved it for me. But, prior to that I would TiVo the most boring stuff. For me it was the show Thirsty Traveler. 15 minutes of that and I'd be out like a light. Good luck.

I know what you are talking about. I think it has to do with being too tired, but also having the feeling of being on call all night. Why sleep if Im going to wake up in a couple of hours? I cant tell you the amount of times Ive pumped or searched the web in the middle of the night, just because I cant go back to sleep. Im back at work and its gotten bit better. Im too tired. Ive also asked DH to give some bottles in the night feedings so I can rest. It will get better!

i think erikaCas hit the nail on the head when she said maybe it's because u feel like you're on call. i occasionally have this problem too. when i get zoe from her room, i bf her in my bed in the dark so my mind will tell me that it's still bedtime. if all else fails, i pop on the tv and watch cnn or some other news station.

i guess we'll truly have no problems falling back asleep once we go back to work.

I had this exact same problem. Once I was awake, it took me up to an hour to get back to sleep, and then sometimes it was time to get back up again once I finally fell asleep! I think I am just a very light/anxious sleeper. One thing I tried was taking naps during the day- when the little ones slept. If you can nap at all, simply resting-even if it's just closing your eyes can give you a little relief to get through the day- also turning off the phone, etc.

The only cure-all for me was when my twin babies started sleeping through the entire night, no problem then! Also, going to bed early helps- gives you those extra precious hours if you can manage it.

Yes. It's because you're on call. You can't relax because you don't know when you'll have to be up again. My daughter started sleeping through the night at 4.5 months, but I didn't start sleeping well until maybe a month or even 2 later. She's almost 10 months now and I'm just getting to where I feel I get a good night's sleep.

I'm in the same boat too. DS will fall right back asleep while I stare at the ceiling for hours. I wish I had a good fix for the both of us!
