Quick question how do you know when your BM is drying up? I have been BFing for 5 months now and I only feel "full" if it has been a long while. Usually durring the day I don't feel as full as I used to. Also Charlie has been eating alot more, how do you know if it is a growth spurt or lack of milk? I guess I plan on starting him on rice cereal a month earlier than I wanted to (not in a bottle) haha..just so he starts to have that nice and full feeling again.

I BF my 6mo old twin girls and I dont get that full feeling anymore either. The girls do have their growth spurts where they eat and eat but then it levels off. But then they BF for comfort too. I wouldnt worry about not having enough. I think Charlie would be pretty PO'd and you would know. I have pumped at night thinking the girls were down for the night and then one gets up and tries to BF. I dont have a lot and she will scream. I think he would let you know for sure. We just started the girls on solids and Im so happy I waited til they were 6 mo b/c they are very ready now.

I think our breasts just get used to it and are better able to accommodate. I don't feel full too often. My boy is also 5 months. He sleeps through the night (10-12 hours between feedings) and he only eats from one side every morning I pump the other side. I used to feel like I was going to explore when I'd pump out 5 ozs now I don't feel full at all and I get 8 oz no problem.

it sounds like your supply had just evened out to the demand. Your breasts don't have to feel full to be making milk. Also, he could be hotting the 6 month growth spurt early, which could account for the increased time nursing.

I would agree that your body has worked out the "supply and demand". I bf my dd until she was 12m. I stopped getting the "full feeling" at about 6m but I over-produced a ton to pump a lot extra. I just stopped pumping and it all leveled out.

I had issues after my daughter was born and couldn't feed her for the first 10 days and when i finally got the chance i was already starting to dry up so there is medication you can take to increase milk supply and my health nurse said feed the baby of both sides twice during a feed and than express as well as there is always milk there even if you can only get a small amount out its still stimulation which will help increase your supply and also express at night time cause that is when the hormone that helps produce milk works the best , my daughter is now 8 weeks old and feeding off me all the time after doing these few easy steps she doesn't need topping up with a bottle anymore!
