Feeding your infant and ensuring they are getting enough nutrition is one of the most important aspects of parenting during that first year. This community is dedicated to those who are nurturing a baby, whether breastfed or formula-fed.
My 9 month old daughter has had breastbuds for awhile.... they are not going away. I asked her doctor yesterday and she said at this point she is not too worried, but if they don't go away by her one year check up, she'd like to do bloodwork to check her estrogen levels etc. I know that breastfed babies can get estrogen from their moms... but she is formula fed. We haven't started dairy yet, so I am not sure where the excess estrogen would be coming from. I did go through IVF to conceive her... could it be from all the hormones I had to take? I am a little worried..... anyone else been in this situation?
Estrogen-like compounds called phthalates do exist in some plastics- they come out when heated or chewed on so you could keep her away from some plastics and avoid wrapping her food in plastic or putting it in plastic bags, cups, plates, etc especially those manufactured in china. I am sure there is info on the net about how to avoid that. I try not to serve either of my kids hot food on plastic plates and I avoid microwaving plastic but I figure you have to live in the world so I dont go supercrazy .
