parent of estranged adult children Community Group
To help parents come together and help each other with compassion and understanding towards adult children who choose to estrange from their parents. This can be an emotional rollercoaster, and the heartfelt grieve and pain can seem unbearable. Just putting your feelings down in print can ease the anxiety and worry that comes with this kind of issue.
I wish I could help you with your questions, but I myself have the same questions. I have a couple of ideas of why my daughter abandoned us, but nothing definitive. What I can do is tell you you are not alone. I'm sure you already knew that from the number of people in this group, but I am replying to you in hopes that we may both experience just a little bit of healing.
Hugs
I am trying to figure out how I can be supportive.
I'd like to have him have hope, but also with hope, I feel he can't move on. He is held in a constant waiting game, hoping that he'll have contact or reach out to him.
Hope can keep him going, but it can also not allow him to deal with the reality, that it is possible she might not be part of his life moving forward.
She has a history of mental illness, so to a certain extent that may be what caused the estrangement. But also he isn't willing to blame her, as he explains that is must be due to her illness.
But as you mentioned, the unanswered questions and the guilt that go along with that can be crippling.
I hope you find peace!!
