I watched a t.v. program this morning about waste disposal. Looking at all that was thrown away by people, I wondered why. There were cardboard boxes, soft drink cans and plastic bottles, plastic milk jugs, newspapers, old appliances, etc. I wondered why people called this progress. In my early years, I'll bet,(I was there, but don't remember.) my mom had me in cloth diapers that she washed and reused on me. The big safety pins to hold it together were reusable too. Soft drinks and milk were in glass bottles that had a deposit on them, and thus, returned to the grocery store. Beer came in bottles, too and had a deposit. Household appliances were repaired,,,not replaced with new ones. Grocery bags were made of paper and reused in the home from school lunch bags to garbage. Cardboard boxes were used for home storage, and mailing packages and were highly valued. Razors used replacement blades. We've become a "disposable" society. Couldn't we improve our world by going back to the old ways?
