Like most kids growing up in single-parent households, I had a lot of unstructured time in which to get into trouble. And my kind of trouble was junk food.
I didn't pull fire alarm bells, I pulled Taco Bells. I didn't run with the juvies, I ran with the Friendly's. Burger King was my gang leader, and Pizza Hut was my hangout. But running with this dangerous crowd not only turned me into a fat kid, it turned me into a depressed kid as well.
Turns out my fast-food diet, with all those processed chemicals and hardly any nutrients, was throwing off my body's feel-good chemistry. Drew Ramsey, M.D., co-author of The Happiness Diet, says that eating the wrong foods can add to our daily stress and make us feel anxious, lethargic, and downright grouchy.
What's worse, a diet that deprives our brains of much-needed "happy" nutrients also makes us fat. When you're stressed out, you're more likely to reach for high-calorie junk foods that pack on the pounds, fueling a never-ending unhappiness cycle that goes like this: You eat bad, then you feel bad, so you eat worse, and then you feel—you guessed it—even worse.
But, Dr. Ramsey says, there's an easy, drug-free way to boost your spirits and shrink your belly: brain food. Yep, feeding your brain with the right nutrients—found in the 11 simple foods below—is all you need to do to improve your mood, boost your energy, and keep your hands out of the chip bag for good.
And for more simple secrets that will keep you looking and feeling your best all year long, follow me right here on Twitter or sign up for our FREE Eat This, Not That! daily newsletter. You'll learn how to lose weight without ever dieting again."

( I have typed this important article fro a Plavix brochure I received from my Dr. - I feel THIS is VERY important info that I want to share with ALL of my Good Neighbors ! So i am copy / typing it manually ! Verbatim - Word by word ! )
"The low-fat craze has been going on for years now. That's because certain kinds of fat in food can raise the cholesterol level in your blood, which can increase your risk of cardiovascular problems.
But not all fats are bad. So it's important to understand the different types of fats in food before you dig in. Talk to your Doctor about a healthy diet that is right for you.
SATURATED FATS
These fats should be limited because they raise blood cholesterol. The American Heart Association recommends that no more than 7% of your total calories each day should come from saturated fats
Most saturated fats come fro manimals and nclude meats, whole milk, cream, ice cream, buter, and lard. There are also plant ols that fall int this category, such as coconut and palm oils..
TRANS FATS
Because they fats whenever possible. These fats come from partially hydrogenated vegetable oils and can be found in many commercial baked goods (like donuts)and fried and fast food..
POLYUNSATURATED AND MONOUNSATURATED FATS (UNSATURATED FATS )
Polyunsaturated fats can help your body get rid of "new" cholesterol. And monounsaturated fats may help to do the same. They're found in certain plant oils, such as sesame,. soy, and sunflower (poly) as well as olive, canola, and peanut oils and avocado (mono). Even though they're "good guys" in the fat world, they still have lots of calories, so they should be eaten in moderation.
A healthy artery - Plaque builds up, narrowing arteries - Plaque ruptures, platelets stick together, clot forms and obstructs blood flow.."
IMO ~ This reminds me of that old nursery rhyme, "All around the cobbler's bench, the monkey chased the weasel. The weasel thought t'was all in fund ~ POP! goes the weasel !!
NDY
Yes, fats can be deserving of their bad rap. But if you opt for the "unsaturated" varieties and keep your total calorie count n check, here's no reason you need to snub them altogether.
