This group reminds me of those encounters... you get the wisdom, humor, and support from your DS...
We make our world unnecessarily complicated with all the silly laws and rules we have. Simple changes could solve many of our complex problems.
-Make marijuana legal, so that it can be sold under the exact same laws as tobacco products - put an end to the criminal organizations and criminal activity now associated with marijuana. Most adults over age 21 like myself would choose not to use it even after it is legalized.
-Make it a requirement that any person who is prescribed drugs that may cause suicidal or aggressive tendencies first surrender all of their firearms and other weapons such as swords, daggers, and hunting knives before their prescription can be filled.
-Have every person pay some income tax if they have any form of income because if any person benefits from the largess of our society, they should also contribute, even if it's only $1 a year. If we are going to have a fair taxation system, everyone should pay in something.
You may agree or disagree with the above, but forget about that for a moment. Instead, do you have any simple solutions for the problems of our world? We'd love to know!

- Politicians should not be allowed to decide when they get raises. That should be put to a public vote. Frankly there is nothing more disgusting than seeing our lawmakers deciding to cut spending to necessary programs that help people or want to shut down parts of government that affect lower level workers getting paid and having jobs but then will want to increase their own pay and think they are justified in doing so. While we're at it - they should all have to have the same lame healthcare coverage as they think the rest of us should suffer with. And they should only be covered with it so long as they are in office - no more getting full benefits forever so long as you serve just one year of one term. The amount of money the country could save with that change alone would be amazing...
- Legalize prostitution. Then regulate the heck out of it. Tax it like any other business/income. Force them to be regularly checked for STDs and use protection (the way they do with porn actors). Put the pimps out of business which would protect more women in "the field" and reduce sex trafficking and violence against them. And it would also free up the cops and some jail space because they wouldn't be pulling in johns or hookers for prostitution.
- Legalize gay marriage everywhere. Seriously, who does it hurt to let them marry? If you're not gay it doesn't affect you anyway...besides, then they can get treated more like hetero couples by being able to get health insurance and be each other's health care proxies, file joint taxes, and receive benefits and such. It's only fair. Besides, it does aid in revenue streams - not only do the states get more money from more marriage licenses but more weddings mean more related industries get an uptick in revenue as well. And that can help to stimulate the economy of course...
- Perhaps the only time a business should receive a benefit from the government on their taxes right now should be if they can prove they have hired someone who has been out of work for more than 2 years onto their staff. It would discourage the notion that someone who has been out of work for a long period of time is no longer a strong candidate for the job, and it would help get the long term unemployed back to work. Granted, that might not help unemployment numbers since that only counts who collects unemployment benefits and the long term unemployed aren't receiving those anymore - but they might be on other benefits like welfare, food stamps, housing assistance, et al. Getting them back to work could mean a reduction in those receiving other longer term benefits. Another positive.
I'm sure I could come up with more too...but there's just a couple ideas off the top of my head to add to your list of solutions, Beaumont...

I'm not saying that religions have to suddenly accept performing religious ceremonies for gay couples, that is the right of every religion to decide whether they wish to do that or not. But gay couples aren't necessarily looking for a church wedding, what they want are equal rights under the law - to file joint taxes, be covered under each others health insurances, be able to receive their spouse's pension or be each other's health care proxy...things that the US government currently does not afford them which makes them like second class citizens. That is hardly fair. Civil Unions aren't the answer either, they aren't recognized the same way as a marriage so they don't get those benefits (that goes for hetero couples too - I have a female cousin who is in a civil union with a man, they are afforded no benefits for it so I have no idea why they did it in the first place...).
