"Take your seat besides the ancient gods of Rome in a spectacular city-building experience." Am I crazy(yes, but about this) or is there something wrong with this sentence? I see this several times a day when I play online games.

Well how can you take a seat next to something that is ancient and a god and in Rome? Seems a tad bit of a logistics and time travel problem to me

I'm thinking NDY that foxysdad's gripe about the sentence has to do with the use of "besides" rather than "beside". It should be "take a seat beside the ancient gods...".

Exactly, TES. For those of you not familiar with me, for 19 years part of my job at a local t.v. station was to catch grammatical errors on commercials. It bugs me that people don't proof read their writing before making it public. Since I'm on disability, I have FAR TOO MUCH time to catch these things in t.v. and the internet. That's why the title of the topic is Picky, Picky, Picky.

Oh yeh - Forgive this stroke-soaked brain that used to be a "wordsmith", journalism & communications major that graduated in '97, cum laud !! I am now on the "slippery-slope"!! LOL!

I think it has a lot to do with twitter and text speak...people don't pay as much attention to grammar and spelling and it seems to have less emphasis in schools now than it used to (save for the annual spelling bee). Too many people write the way they speak and so few people speak proper English in the US now so you wind up with errors like that one. Saddest part is that someone approved that and people see it every day and there are probably very few people who notice the error.

    It still chokes me up. I had tears in my eyes again. I love Ted Lasso and would highly recommend watching it if you can. It is on Apple TV now season 4 episode 1 dropped on Wed and will continue dropping each Wed until season ends some time later this year.I must add I will gladly be paying the $19.99 per month to get these shows each week after my free 30day trial of apple tv ends from buying a...
